Report: Increasing Tennessee Infrastructure Budget Will Pay Benefits (Memphis Business Journal)
A new report by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and the Tennessee Infrastructure Alliance suggests an increase in Tennessee's infrastructure budget would pay off down the road. The report says a sustained $460 million annual increase in Tennessee's highway and bridge capital fund would boost the state's economy by $1.17 billion. The report goes on to say the increase would also create more than 10,000 new jobs in Tennessee, increase the state payroll tax coffers by more than $153 million and increase the state's sales tax revenue by more than $82 million.
